Heat pump rebates: LogisVert, the announced federal rebate, and the electrician’s role

Hydro-Québec’s LogisVert program pays $50 per 1,000 BTU/h at −8 °C for an ENERGY STAR heat pump, or $120 for a cold-climate model. It is open to homeowners, including Hydro-Sherbrooke, Hydro-Magog and Hydro-Coaticook customers. A federal rebate was announced on October 8, 2026, but its conditions are not yet published.

How much LogisVert pays

For a new heat pump installed in an eligible home, Hydro-Québec pays:

  • $50 per 1,000 BTU/h at −8 °C for an ENERGY STAR certified heat pump;
  • $120 per 1,000 BTU/h at −8 °C for an ENERGY STAR cold-climate heat pump.

What counts is the heating capacity at −8 °C, not the cooling capacity. The rebate depends on the installation date and cannot exceed 100% of the purchase and installation cost, before taxes.

The main conditions

  • The home: a house (including a chalet that can be lived in year-round), condo, plex or residential building, finished and habitable all year.
  • The unit: a complete, new system, central or wall-mounted, ENERGY STAR certified, with an outdoor unit of at least 12,000 BTU/h in cooling mode, bought in Québec.
  • The installer: registered with the Registraire des entreprises, holding the appropriate RBQ licences and a member of its trade’s corporation.
  • What doesn’t qualify: indoor units installed outside the living space (in the attic, for example), replacing a single component, or a replacement covered by a warranty or insurance.
  • The deadline: you apply online at logisvert.ca within 9 months of installation. Processing takes 10 to 12 weeks.

Documents to keep

  • Proof of ownership: your municipal tax bill or the first page of the deed of sale.
  • The purchase and installation invoice, showing among other things the installation date, the address, the company’s name and RBQ licence number, its GST and QST numbers, the unit’s AHRI or ENERGY STAR number and the cost of the work.
  • A clear photo of the outdoor unit’s nameplate.

Bonuses

  • Several measures in the same application: if you group at least two different measures (for example a heat pump and an induction range), the total rebate goes up by 5%.
  • Multi-unit buildings: for installations made from June 15, 2026, a building owner can receive $100 more per 1,000 BTU/h, for $220 in total, for a cold-climate wall-mounted heat pump. Conditions: a plex or residential building (not a condo or a business) in an energy-poverty zone, built in 1995 or earlier, heated with electricity, with one meter per unit, a property value per unit below the regional median, and tenants who each pay their own electricity bill. This bonus cannot be combined with the previous one.

Hydro-Sherbrooke, Hydro-Magog, Hydro-Coaticook

The program is open to homes supplied by a municipal network. The City of Sherbrooke has confirmed it for Hydro-Sherbrooke customers. The same conditions apply.

Low-income households

Hydro-Québec offers free wall-mounted heat pumps to eligible households, and taking part in Éconologis is a prerequisite. According to the official page updated on August 13, 2026, Éconologis registrations for the 2026-2027 season are closed.

The announced federal rebate

On October 8, 2026, the Government of Canada announced a heat pump rebate: up to $10,000 for households below the median income and $2,000 for other eligible households, combinable with provincial programs according to the announcement. The conditions and dates are not yet published; Hydro-Québec says these offers are planned starting in 2027.

The electrician’s role

Before you buy, we check that your panel can carry the heat pump: that’s the load calculation. Then we run the dedicated circuit, sized from the unit’s nameplate, and install the outdoor disconnect, coordinated with your heat pump installer. If your service is too tight, we tell you before you buy the unit.

Frequently asked questions

How much will I get for my heat pump?
The amount is based on your model’s heating capacity at −8 °C: $50 per 1,000 BTU/h for an ENERGY STAR heat pump, $120 for a cold-climate model. For example, a cold-climate model rated 24,000 BTU/h at −8 °C gives 24 × $120, or $2,880. The rebate cannot exceed the purchase and installation cost before taxes.
I rent: am I eligible for the heat pump rebate?
According to the program guide, a tenant is eligible for an induction range or a heat pump dryer, not for a heat pump. The owner is the one who can apply for the heat pump rebate.
Is my chalet eligible?
Yes, if it can be lived in year-round: the guide includes chalet-type houses, as long as the home is habitable all year and its construction is finished.
Should I wait for the federal rebate?
Its conditions are not yet published. Hydro-Québec says the federal offers are planned starting in 2027 and that LogisVert remains in effect. If your heating system has to be replaced now, LogisVert already applies.
